Allison Strausberg, LCSW
(she/they)
I received my Bachelor of Arts from Juniata College with a double major in International Relations and Theater in 2010 and my Master of Social Work with a certificate in Applied Arts and Social Justice from the University of New England in 2016.
Along the way I worked as a housing access case manager in rural Colorado, a process facilitator of restorative justice in Maine, and practiced applied arts and theater for social change in various community settings including rural Ecuador and Portland, ME.
As a clinician, I have worked in residential treatment programs with adults struggling with co-occurring mental illnesses and residential treatment programs with teens struggling with complex trauma as well as neurodivergent teens.
In 2019, I transitioned to outpatient therapy settings where I have had the honor and joy of working with a wide range of people. My clients have included people ages 18-70, students, professionals, artists, athletes, parents, veterans, community and spiritual leaders, construction workers, and business owners. The outpatient setting has also provided me with the opportunity to deepen my therapeutic toolbox through advanced trainings and ongoing consultation with colleagues.
My Approach
I am passionate about using highly effective therapy methods to cultivate meaningful change and healing in people’s lives. My collaborative approach integrates evidence-based methods with compassion, humor, and attuned listening. I welcome long silences, fast-paced intensity, and everything in between.
I trust you as the expert of your own experience. Together, we will explore past experiences, patterns, and what is happening in the here and now. My focus is on creating a safe and authentic space in which you can explore your truth and learn how to live a life that resonates deeply with your dreams and values.
My practice is Internal Family Systems informed and incorporates Emotionally Focused Therapy, mindfulness-based somatic work, interpersonal effectiveness skill building, and Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR. These approaches allow us to heal the nervous system, rewire the brain, expand emotional capacity, and build concrete skills to use in your relationships with yourself and others.
Personal
I am originally from the east coast and relocated to Oregon in 2020. My life outside of work is guided by a love of adventure and connection.
